Are you struggling to keep your images organized?

Do you have 15 external hard drives that might be backed up somewhere? Are you expected to deliver images or videos to clients in a timely manner?

It seems like more photographers and videographers than ever are starting to purchase and use Network Attached Storage devices for their media and frankly, I love it! A NAS can be such a wonderful way for a creator to automate many of the worst parts of the image management workflow.

The problem is that without a bit of networking knowledge, setting up a NAS can be incredibly frustrating.

I’ve helped many photographer go from using a wide selection of external hard drives, to a streamlined, efficient, storage workflow with one (or multiple) NAS devices integrated as the foundation.

“Forest is so knowledgeable about Lightroom and NAS but that’s not the best part. The best part is how patient he is with teaching and how he’s able to break down complicated scenarios in easy steps anyone can understand.” - Clare Hayes

“I first encountered Forest on Youtube and I was impress with his detail explanations of complex technical information that was easy to understand. As a retired technology consultant, it has been difficult to keep up with all the changes in the industry. So when I ran into problem with NAS/Backup, I contacted Forester. I was so pleased with his assistance. He also followed up with video that provided several drawings of possible future system configurations. Along with drawing he added narration of pluses and misses. Yes, I plan to use him in the future.” - Douglas Snyder

Here are some common questions that I can help with:
  • I’m curious about how a NAS can help me, but I don’t even know where to start
  • I bought a NAS and have no idea how to get it connected
  • I’m worried that I configured my NAS improperly and I might lose my images
  • How to I ensure my NAS is backed up
  • I’m using a NAS, but I feel like I’m not getting the best performance
  • How do I connect to my NAS wirelessly
  • I have 47 external hard drives and I’m tired of wondering which ones are backed up, can you help me?
  • I put images on my NAS and now I can’t find them

I’m familiar with Synology, UGREEN, and QNAP NAS systems. It should be noted that my specialty is setting up and troubleshooting NAS devices for photographers or videographers. If you are looking for more advanced help such as using Docker, TrueNAS, HexOS, Unraid, Plex, Jellyfin, or any other advanced features (or features unrelated to photography/videography), I’m not going to be the right person for the job.

Here's a (mostly complete) list of how I can help:

  • Getting your NAS connected to your network (via 1Gb or 10Gb)
  • Connecting to your NAS
  • Ensuring your NAS is secure
  • Setting up Volumes, Storage Pools, and Shared Folders
  • Managing multiple users
  • Remove access using the web interface (not a VPN)
  • Setting up an SSD cache
  • Figuring out performance issues
  • Backing up a NAS to the cloud or a second NAS
  • Using Lightroom or Lightroom Classic with a NAS
  • Backing up your computer to your NAS
